CIRIA's Civil Infrastructure Initiative

CIRIA’s Council and Executive Board are backing new focused activities to consolidate and enhance CIRIA’s activities on civil infrastructure, to both raise the profile of this body of knowledge and provide a platform for industry leadership on innovation and good practice.

The new initiatives are facilitating cross-sector dialogue, addressing challenges faced by industry in delivering new, and maintaining existing, infrastructure.

The Government has highlighted the need for strategic long-term infrastructure investment to ensure that Britain can compete in the global race for growth. Following the formation of Infrastructure UK, the release of the joint Government and industry "Industrial Strategy for Construction" (2013), and together with the strategic view of the Government’s Infrastructure Pipeline of major infrastructure projects and related skills requirements, is the need for a coordinated effort to ensure that research and innovation is both promoted and harnessed.

Activities relating to smart construction, innovation in infrastructure delivery and management, infrastructure resilience and other civil infrastructure topics will be taken forward including industry signposts, events, briefings, videos and the formation of working groups.
