Charlie Law, BAM Construct UK Ltd
Charlie has worked in the construction sector for over 25 years, and is currently Head of Environmental Management at BAM Construct UK Ltd, the UK arm of the €9billion turnover Dutch based construction services organisation Royal BAM Group. He has extensive knowledge of the construction industry, starting as a Quantity Surveyor, before moving into Site Management, and then setting up BAM’s Workforce Department in 1999.
Since 2003 he has been dedicated to environmental management within BAM, setting up and implementing their ISO14001 certified Environmental Management System, which covers all parts of the UK organisation (Property Development, Design, Construction, Facilities Management and Plant Hire). He has extensive knowledge of environmental management across all market sectors and regions in the UK, as well as working with his European counterparts on waste and CO2 reduction strategies.
Charlie sits on the leadership committee of UK Contractors Group (UKCG) Environmental Sub-group, chairing their Waste Working Group, and is vice-chair of the Government’s Greening the Industry Waste Task Group (formally the Strategic Forum for Construction Waste Task Group). He is chair of the Grown in Britain Contractors Group, driving the demand for home grown timber, and sits on the Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA) Advisory Committee. He is also a council member of European Network of Construction Companies for Research and Development (ENCORD), and chaired their sustainability working group from 2008 to 2014, during which time they developed the industry CO2e and waste measurement protocols.
