Festive Bite-Size session: The New Human Epoch: Human Sustainability in the Anthropocene

December 2nd, 2014, 5-7pm, Bristol

This event will include a seasonal social gathering, with mince pies and festive cheer!

Rob Rickey, environmental designer and certified Passive House designer at Lacey Hickie & Caley architects will be making an intriguing presentation entitled 'The New Human Epoch - Human Sustainability in the Anthropocene'

Rob will be connecting the themes of combating climate change (urgent!) and understanding human comfort and happiness and then examining how we can find an architecture that addresses both.

Rob believes that many people in the construction world (including architects) look on changing standards as an obstacle or impediment rather than as an opportunity, and the focus of design moves away from human experience to box-ticking. Using a range of tools, the participants will have the chance to compare their own experience with predictive comfort methods. There are different challenges with existing and new build and Rob will use some case studies from LHC architects' work to illustrate these points as well as referring to Janine Benyus' work on biomimicry.
