Ecobuild 2014: How to prepare for Minimum Energy Performance Standards

Preparing for MEPS: strategies for assessing, identifying and costing the risk in your portfolio presented at Ecobuild 2014 by Emma Hoskyn, Associate Director Upstream Sustainability Services, Jones Lang LaSalle.

The Energy Act 2011 sees the introduction of Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for commercial buildings, which will tighten minimum energy efficiency requirements. From April 2018 it will be unlawful to rent business premises that do not meet the new minimum threshold envisaged to be an EPC rating of E or better. Estimates suggest that 18% of commercial property stock will be affected by the new Act. Forward thinking landlords and occupiers are assessing the risk posed by this legislation and are creating investment strategies to address energy efficiency in their assets.
