Involving citizens in the development of Smart Cities presented at Ecobuild 2014 by Kevin O’Malley, Future City Team Manager, Bristol City Council.

The smart city has great promise - it can manage energy use to reduce overall demand, it can tell its citizens which bus to catch to avoid the crush and it can respond quickly to environmental threats whether poor air quality or an imminent flood. The challenge is creating the interconnectivity and providing the infrastructure needed to make this happen. This session explores the challenge and lessons from smart city pioneers
