Ecobuild 2014: Creating sustainable urban transport systems and liveable streets

Stephen Joseph, OBE, CEO Campaign for Better Transport talks at Ecobuild 2014 about creating a policy framework for sustainable urban transport and liveable streets

Movement is central to city life, but traditional, car-dominated solutions lead to clogged up streets and a poor urban quality of life. This session looks beyond the car, to city streets of the future, where priority is given to sustainable transport modes and streets become important public spaces and centres of social and economic activity. How to achieve this may be guided by the new framework for street planning in London, where place functions are given full attention; the seminar considers what this means in practice, both on busy streets and in quiet residential neighbourhoods.
