TRADA Research Summary: Thermal mass in lightweight domestic construction

Prepared by the Steel Construction Institute (SCI) this is a summary update of original research work undertaken by Oxford Brookes University and sponsored by TATA Steel. The work compares lightweight framed construction with traditional construction in terms of delivering cost-effective housing without a risk of overheating. It demonstrates that the risk of overheating in a house built with lightweight framing is comparable to that of a house built to current standards with brick and lightweight block.
