INREV Snapshot 2012: Sustainability Reporting Recommendations

In January, INREV released its first Sustainability Reporting Recommendations. Designed to guide fund managers in determining the data they should be collecting in the area of sustainability, the recommendations focus on four main categories: energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water usage and waste disposal. The recommendations closely align with EPRA’s Sustainability Reporting Best Practice Recommendations which were released in September of last year. Both associations’ recommendations build on relevant mandatory reporting requirements and voluntary initiatives affecting real estate, in particular the Global Reporting Initiative’s Construction and Real Estate Sector Supplement (GRI CRESS). INREV hopes that sustainability disclosure throughout the real estate industry will increase as a result of these recommendations, which it sees as an important goal.
